Not to be missed

The Pey Berland Tower & Saint André Cathedral

The walls of this building witnessed in 1137 the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Louis VII, the future king of France, then five centuries later, the union of Anne of Austria and Louis XIII. Saint André Cathedral marks the boundary between Old Bordeaux and the modern city. You can then climb the 229 steps of the Pey-Berland tower to reach the top of the bell tower (50 meters) to appreciate the exceptional view of Bordeaux and its monuments.

Stroll around Place de la Bourse and the water mirror

Here, everyone gathers, young and old, for a moment of freshness and relaxation, throughout the day. Facing this emblematic square dating from 1730, stands since almost 2006 the famous water mirror, which has become an essential place in the Gironde capital.

Go up rue Sainte Catherine, and discover the Grand Théâtre

Starting at Place de la Victoire, go up the 1.2km of Rue Sainte Catherine, where a large number of shop windows are available to you… After crossing this emblematic street, you arrive in front of the Grand Théâtre, present for more than 3 centuries. It is one of the oldest theaters in Europe.

After the Grand Théâtre, you arrive in front of the Esplanade des Quinconces, lined with trees, which occupies a vast site of 12 hectares on the banks of the Garonne. Its area makes it the second largest square in Europe, and dates from 1818. It is decorated to the east by two rostral columns and to the west by the Monument to the Girondins. Many events take place there throughout the year.
